As gamers, we all know that there is nothing better than gathering together to do what you love with the people you enjoy the most. Unfortunately, life sometimes gets in the way and time together can be scarce. With this problem, it’s no wonder many of us long for an area specifically dedicated to gaming; a space where we can gather our friends and play games without any distractions or disturbances.

Although it is possible to turn a living room into a makeshift gamer haven or convert a bedroom into a sweet-ass man cave, many of us just lack the necessary skills, time, money or extra rooms required to create such spaces. If this sounds like you, fear not!

In this article, I am going to discuss some tips and tricks that will help you create a nice, comfortable gaming area within your home without a lot of effort or major renovation.

First things first

The most important thing about setting up a dedicated gamer space is to have all of your stuff in one place. This includes consoles, televisions, controllers, games and so on.

Once you have everything situated it’s time to start improving your space as much as possible! Your budget is going to be the biggest factor here so if you’re not willing to spend money on extra accessories try searching around for used items instead.

Let’s begin with lighting. A room that isn’t well lit can make playing games very stressful on our eyes which increases the risk of headaches and, according to a recent study, may even prevent us from getting better at playing games.

Some simple ways to improve lighting include putting lamps near seating areas so players can read the screen more easily and adding lights above televisions/gaming systems so there is an even amount of light in all corners of your room.

If you want to go the extra mile you can always purchase brighter bulbs for lamps or adjustable task lights that will make gaming easier on your eyes ( this is what I do ). It should also be noted that certain types of lighting are much better than others; natural light is great because it’s never too bright or dark but fluorescent bulbs tend to cast weird shadows especially if the lamp they’re in isn’t close enough to where you are sitting.

If you don’t have the money to purchase all of these different kinds of lights you can always just try rearranging your furniture or re-positioning lamps until everything looks good.

The best kind of lighting is ambient lighting because it provides a general level of brightness that allows us to see while also reducing eye strain. This type of light is usually found in ceiling fixtures so putting them in strategic places like above seating areas, behind televisions and near outlets (for plugging consoles in).

Another thing gamers need for their gaming space is room temperature control, especially if they play games with friends or family. What I mean by this is that you need to be able to keep the room at a comfortable temperature so nobody gets too hot/cold and has to leave.

Many games can take hours upon hours for a single play-through which means your guests will be in your gaming space for a while, especially if they’re trying to beat a difficult level or unlocking an achievement.

You don’t want them becoming uncomfortable after 10 minutes because it’s too cold in the room and leaving right when things start getting interesting do you? Of course not! That’s why proper heating and air conditioning is key. Fortunately, most modern homes come equipped with central heating – all you have to do is make sure its thermostat isn’t set to “away” when you’re using your gaming space.

If the room is too hot you can either open a window or purchase an oscillating fan. Some gamers even create their own cooling systems by buying multiple fans and positioning them around the room in strategic locations.

Podcasts are another good way to keep your guests entertained while they wait for their turn but be careful with how loud you play them because nobody likes having loud background noise when they’re trying to focus on something important (such as winning a race in Mario Kart)

Next, let’s talk about decoration. Many games come with some sweet looking boxes that can add a lot of personality/vibe into any gamer cave so why not try displaying them somewhere in your room?

You can always get creative and try putting them on top of your television or hanging them up on the wall (if they’re big enough). If you don’t have any game boxes to display then one of the easiest ways to add some decoration into your gaming space is by buying a rug. Rugs help tie everything together, especially when you have colorful walls/furniture because it creates this cool contrasting color scheme that just makes things look great.

Some gamers also like using statues in their rooms but I would only recommend doing so if you actually enjoy looking at them otherwise they are just going to take up space in an area where there isn’t much already.

People who want to incorporate collectables into their gaming space should look into getting furniture with storage (like ottomans or coffee tables) because gaming equipment can get bulky and you don’t want it taking up too much space in your room.

Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about cleaning. There are many different ways to clean depending on the size of your room so I will do my best to provide general tips that can be applied to any gamer cave

Start by picking up all the clutter off the floor – things like controllers, cables, game cases, snacks, etc. should all go in a bin/plastic bag once they’re picked up so you can easily take them out of your room for when it’s time to play again. If there is excess dirt on the floor then a broom and dustpan should do the trick but if there is still more dirt left then you may need to vacuum.

Make sure that the air inside your room doesn’t have a foul smell by using disinfectant wipes – especially near any trash bins where food/snacks are disposed of

It’s also important to clean off your console because it can attract dust which means you will have to clean it off every few months or so, otherwise it won’t look pretty sitting on top of your television appear dusty when you use it. Here is an article on how to properly clean gaming consoles

In order to avoid some of these problems with keeping a nice-looking gaming space, make sure that you clean up after yourself and take everything out of your room when you’re done playing. If you follow these simple tips then you will have a more enjoyable time with friends/family because there won’t be too many distractions to ruin your gameplay.
