Step 3: Wait for the salt lamp to solidify before switching on your light bulb or lava lamp. You can also use a candle if you prefer.

All you need to make a salt lamp is an old light bulb, some seawater, and table salt.

Fill the base of the vegetable oil with 1/2 to 1 cup of rock salt (the larger grain size will hold up better over time), then fill the rest of the jar with river or clarified water. You don’t want any tap water because it has chlorine in it that will turn your lamp black! Pour this mixture into your lightbulb fixture and screw on both halves. Do not putty or glue — these sealants may contain plastics that can melt under heat from your new lamp! Just leave it free-standing for decorative purposes, filling only one room at a time with its soft glow.

1. you will need a large jar or vase made from translucent material such as glass, clear plastic, or ceramic. This is important in order to prove the light within the object and make it glow.

2. You will also need three bags of pure white Himalayan salt. It must be pure white for maximum effectiveness and you should use absolutely no other type of salt.

3. Fill your container with about half an inch of water at the bottom – just enough to cover the surface after applying the salt on top of it – then stop filling until you have applied all three bags worth of salt into your container on top of that layer of water.

You can make a salt lamp by buying any kind of vessel with a small hole in the top. Then you pour about 20 pounds of table salt inside and seal it.

A tip for people who want to make their own salt lamps is to use dry sea or Epsom salts instead, because they are very cheap, whereas table salt isn’t always available in quantities less than 50 pounds.
